Syahbandar Leaning Tower As North Jakarta Symbol

Jakarta, metropostnews.com - The greatness of Syahbandar Leaning Tower which located between Maritime Museum and Fish Market, Jl. Pasar Ikan No. 1, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, has inspire North Jakarta Municipality to inaugurate the tower as symbol of North Jakarta district. For that, they are planning to build five replicas of the tower in five locations with allocated budget Rp 1 billion. As an icon, the replica was also meant as form of cultural heritage preservation.

The five locations chosen are in Jl. RE Martadinata in front of Ancol entrance, Jembatan Tiga district, Jl. Gunung Sahari Pademangan sub-district, Perintis Kemerdekaan Park in Kelapa Gading sub-district, and near Soekarno-Hatta airport toll exit. The size will be 12 meters height with 4x8 square meters wide.

According to Bambang Sugiyono, North Jakarta Major, the replica building has been planned since last year and now they are waiting for the license come out. "We still focus on the licensing. If we receive the license this year, the project will begin next year," he said.

Syahbandar Tower was established 172 years ago by Dutch Colonial Government in 1839 and known as Uitkijk Post. It used to watch and guide ships entered Batavia, before Tanjung Priok Port operated officially. (jek)
